My wife is a great cook

I would just like to thank my wife for being such a great cook lately. She's really been on a roll - I'm a lucky guy. (While she does have a name, she seems to think that aliens will descend and abduct her if they find out her name on my blog, so for now she will remain "my wife" :-)

It isn't a proper website without a cat picture

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law-law (what is your sister-in-law's husband called?) have their first exciting website.  It currently features their names, and a picture of their cat. What could be more first-website? Hey guys, you should have a blog....

Junipero Gin is really good

I've always liked a nice Gin and Tonic. A couple of years ago I was wondering why there weren't any "microbrew" gins out there. Bombay and Tanqueray were both nice, but they got a little boring after a while. I finally found a new high-end gin I really like: Junipero Gin.  It is from the distillery branch of Anchor Steam Brewing in San Francisco.  It has a lovely flavor, without being too weird.

Did you know that Anchor Steam was founded by Mr. Fritz Maytag?  Yes, that Maytag.  A good thing to do with a family fortune :-).

My favorite poet

This is a little off topic from my normal techie fare, but I just wanted to recommend a book of poetry.  I have a favorite poet, Ted Kooser.  Tonight I'm reading his book Delights and Shadows.  I've never really been a fan of poetry, but I love reading his stuff.  I heard him being interviewed on NPR, and he read some of his poems.  I loved it.  He lives in Nebraska, and has a very Midwestern feel. He's actually the Poet Laureate of the U.S. at the moment (they take turns).  I find myself staying up late to read poems, which is not a common occurrence.

I also have a favorite painter and composer.  Maybe I'll talk about them soon.
